The Nuance Group is based in Zurich Switzerland, but it evolved from the British duty-free company Ocean Trading, who used to supply cruise ships leaving from the port of Southampton. Nuance also bought Allders International, who managed airport shops at London's airports and then alongside the inflight supply business of Swissair and Crossair an international retail business developed.

Nuance were the real innovators for the concept of shopping at 'duty free arrivals' and today have shops in the major Swiss airports of Zurich and Geneva. In Australia their retail brand is known as “First Duty Free”, operating shops at Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth airports and in Sydney 'SYD Duty Free' became the world's first online pre-order store for tax free shopping. Another brand they use is “Duty Free Paradise” and their shops in Turkey are branded as such, in Asia they are partnered with a perfume and cosmetics retailer called Watsons.

Branded fashion stores include names such as Cavalli, Emporio Armani and Porsche Design, whilst the on board airline supply business continues in Switzerland.
